The Russian foreign Ministry sent a note to the Norwegian Embassy over the detention of the trawler

the Norwegian Embassy in Moscow sent a note of protest in connection with detention by the Norwegian coast guard the Russian trawler “Boreas”. The incident occurred on the second of April at Svalbard, said Friday at a briefing the official representative of Russian foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova.

Such actions of the Norwegian authorities of serious concern, say the diplomats. According to them, the Russian position on non-recognition of the so-called fisheries protection zone around Svalbard was repeatedly brought to the attention of the Norwegian side, mentioned in public.

“we Believe that the practice of detention of foreign vessels is in line with the policy of Norway on the illegal extension of their rights in the archipelago contrary to the provisions of the Spitsbergen Treaty, 1920” – quoted by TASS Zakharov. The Russian foreign Ministry urged the Norwegian authorities to follow the provisions of the document, based on the idea of international cooperation and mutual respect of rights and legitimate interests of the States parties to the Treaty.

the Diplomat stressed that Moscow expects from Oslo constructive approach and cooperation to resolve such incidents, including in the framework of the joint Russian-Norwegian fisheries Commission.
