Japan’s position regarding the territorial belonging of the South Kuril Islands has not changed. As reported TASS, said Minister of foreign Affairs of Japan, Toshimitsu Motegi.

Recently, as reported by “the Rambler”, the Ministry of foreign Affairs (MFA) of Japan, presented the annual report “the Blue book diplomacy.” It is said that the country’s sovereignty extends to the southern group of the Kurile Islands — Iturup, Habomai, Kunashir and Shikotan. Similar language was present in the “Blue book” for 2018, but was absent in the report for 2019.

Today Motegi gave in Tokyo a press conference. In the course of it he said that the return of the said phrase in the “Blue book” does not mean that the position of Japan regarding the territorial belonging of the South Kuril Islands has changed.

“No change in our position there,” — assured the Minister.

He also stressed that do not change the position of Tokyo concerning the conclusion with Russia the peace Treaty. In the “Blue book” for 2020 says that this will be possible only after the settlement of the question of the ownership of Iturup, Habomai, Kunashir and Shikotan.
