Chairman of the state Duma Vyacheslav Volodin has offered to perform all international treaties with the Constitution. Recall that the Basic law was previously amended, including concerned international agreements. In article 79 of the Constitution, a sentence was added: “Decisions of inter-state bodies adopted on the basis of international treaties of the Russian Federation in their interpretation, contrary to the Constitution of the Russian Federation, are not subject to execution in the Russian Federation”. “We are talking about the strengthening of our country in the international arena, the strengthening of our sovereignty. We believe it is important such a rule. And after its entry into force would be the right thing to perform today, all inter-state agreement within international organizations that have shaped the legal framework in this part during 1990-ies and to this day work,” said Mr Volodin at the meeting of the Council of legislators of Russia (quoted by TASS). European Commission for democracy through law of the Council of Europe (Venice Commission) urged Russia to abandon the amendment.
