Washington disappointed by the decision of Turkey to turn Hagia Sophia into a mosque. It is reported by RIA “Novosti” with reference to Department spokesman Morgan Ortagus.

"We are disappointed with the decision of the Turkish government to change the status of Hagia Sophia," she said.

Ortagus reminded that the building is an important part of "the historical heritage of Istanbul", listed as a world heritage site by UNESCO in recognition of its rich multicultural history.
