The European Union criticized the decision of Russia and China to abstain in the UN Security Council on a resolution to extend for a year cross-border aid to Syria. About it reports “Interfax” with reference to the statement of the head of EU diplomacy Josep Borrell and EU Commissioner for crisis management Ambassador Janez Lenarcic.

European officials said that the approach of Russia and China to this question is not constructive and causes them regret. They stressed that Syria is now the most need help in a pandemic coronavirus. The EU high Representative is also concerned that under the new resolution, the UN will be able to use only one checkpoint of the two previously available.

Earlier, the UN Security Council adopted a resolution to extend for a year cross-border aid to Syria. The project was supported by 12 members of the security Council. Three more countries, including Russia, abstained from voting. Delivery will be carried out only through one point on the border with Turkey, “Bab-El-Hawa”.

This meeting became the fifth attempt of the security Council for a week to extend the cross-border humanitarian operations.

On 11 June, the UN security Council once again rejected the Russian resolution on Syria. 9 July rejected another version of the resolution Russia.
