According to a member of the European Commission, Virginijus Sinkevicius, the EU can give a “very tough response” to the actions of the Belarusian authorities against participants of protest actions. About it reports “Interfax”.

“We see such proposals that, most likely, will have to give a very tough response to the actions of Belarus after the election,” he explained.

Sinkevicius also called the most effective measures of individual sanctions, noting that in the EU are currently being discussed “various options”.

As reported by “the Rambler”, the mass protests and clashes of protesters with security officers began in Belarus from 9 August after the end of voting in the presidential elections of the country. According to the CEC, the elections were won by incumbent President Alexander Lukashenko. However, his main rival Svetlana Tikhanovski did not recognize the election results. Later it became known that she had left Belarus after a seven-hour detention, and received a Lithuanian visa.
