President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko ahead of elections expressed the hope that the fate of the country will be solved “solely by its citizens.” As an example, the Belarusian leader cited the struggle for power “between Yeltsin and Gorbachev in the Kremlin.”

Then, says Lukashenko, Belarusians waited and watched what would happen next. Because of its independence, the country received “without blood and sweat”.

We are a young sovereign and independent state. We got this independence without bloodshed. Perhaps, without sweat. Then there was a fierce struggle for power between Yeltsin and Gorbachev in the Kremlin. Many of us, the whole country actually, watching what will happen next, Lukashenka is quoted by BelTA.

The head of state came to the conclusion that “its decisions” on the fate of the country should take all the people of Belarus, and it is here — in the country.

Presidential elections in Belarus scheduled for August 9, 2020. Registration of candidates ended on July 14. The CEC registered five people, including the incumbent leader Alexander Lukashenko.

Earlier NEWS.ru reported that representatives of the headquarters of opposition politicians in Belarus met in Minsk. They decided to combine efforts in the elections of the President of the country.
