In Venezuela parliamentary elections can be postponed because of the coronavirus

BUENOS AIRES, 18 Jul – RIA Novosti. Elections for the National Assembly of Venezuela, scheduled for this year may be postponed to a later date due to the coronavirus, said the President Nicolas Maduro in an interview with radio station AM 750.

“Today it would be unwise on my part to say that elections should be held,” said Maduro, adding that the priority is to combat coronavirus.

In Venezuela at the beginning of 2019 began mass protests against President Nicolas Maduro shortly after the oath of office. The head of the National Assembly, controlled by the opposition, Juan Guido illegally declared himself interim head of state.

a Number of Western countries led by the US announced its recognition of Guido. In turn, Maduro called the head of the Parliament a puppet of the US. Russia, China, Turkey and several other countries have supported Maduro as the legitimate President. In Moscow called “presidential status” of Guido non-existent.
