The mayor of the district Prague 6 ondřej kolář, on whose initiative in the capital of the Czech Republic dismantled the monument to Marshal Ivan Konev liberated the city from the Nazis, has complained of Russia in the European Commission. It is reported by the Czech radio.

Kolář wrote the head of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen letter, which stated that the authorities of Prague 6 had the right to remove the monument, as it is the property of the municipality and he has the right to dispose of them in accordance with the laws of the country.

"the Act of removing the monument from the pedestal caused inadequate reaction of Russia, which in response to this, it is a legal decision of the district Prague 6, I decided to respond with threats and overall improper interference in the internal Affairs of Prague-6, Prague as such, and in the final — the whole of the Czech Republic" – he wrote.

In addition, the mayor of the district said that the Russians call the authorities of Prague 6 by the Nazis.

Kolar also complained that Russia accuses Western Nations of falsifying and rewriting of history and supposedly holds against the EU hybrid war.

"Madam President, I ask and urge you to take decisive measures to make Russia clearly stated that such behavior is unacceptable," the letter says headman.

Earlier Czech President Milos Zeman said that the dismantling of the monument to Konev is stupid, but noted that interference in the internal Affairs of the country is counterproductive.

The monument to Marshal Ivan Konev was installed in Prague at the initiative of the city authorities in the late 1970’s-early 1980-ies. It was erected at the expense of the residents of the capital in gratitude for the fact that the commander kept buildings of the city, and ordered not to use heavy artillery during the assault of Prague in his release from the Nazis in may 1945.

Earlier it became known that the Ministry of foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic is ready to hold talks with Russia on the transfer of the monument to Marshal.

In connection with the incident, defense Minister Sergei Shoigu proposed to introduce criminal liability for the authorities of other countries, which demolish the monument to Soviet citizens.

Press Secretary of the President Dmitry Peskov, commenting on the incident, stressed that the Kremlin wished to see the monument restored on the place where he was.
