UN chief Antonio Guterres said that the 26 richest people of the Earth have so many of the same benefits many as half of the world’s population, reports RIA Novosti.

Such a statement he made during a lecture in memory of the fighter against apartheid Nelson Mandela. He added that more than 70 percent of the world’s people live in conditions of growing income inequality.

He also pointed out that the chances of people to succeed in life "depend on their gender, family or ethnic origin, race, presence or absence of disability".

He stressed that for many, especially indigenous peoples, migrants, refugees and other minority groups, inequality refers to discrimination, abuse and lack of access to justice.

Guterres concluded that inequality undermines the life chances and opportunities. He believes that "as a result, economic policy resources up to the privileged minority".
