Experts of the Food and agriculture organization (FAO) in collaboration with the world food programme (WFP) identified almost 30 countries, where the situation with food security may deteriorate significantly in a pandemic. As reported in the press service of the organization with headquarters in the Italian capital, the relevant data contained in the last joint report.

"by the pandemic in 27 countries will worsen already existing factors leading to hunger", – stated in the message.

Among these countries – Afghanistan and Bangladesh in Asia, Haiti and Venezuela and Central America as well as Iraq, Lebanon, Sudan, and Syria in the middle East, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Liberia, Mali, Niger, Nigeria, Mozambique, Sierra Leone and Zimbabwe in Africa.

This indicates that in Afghanistan, food prices rose nearly 20% with the decline due to pandemic incomes. In Bangladesh, the economic consequences of the crisis can lead to an increase almost twice the number of the poor. In African countries the impacts of the pandemic are compounded by weather disasters and locust attacks, experts say.

To counter these trends, the FAO once again announced the increase necessary assistance to $428,5 million in the framework of a Global plan for humanitarian response of the UN to the pandemic.

Earlier, the FAO unveiled a Program response and recovery after the pandemic, providing seven key priority areas of work. In particular, it provides the adaptation of the Global plan. To execute this program in the first phase will need $1.2 billion.

According to FAO projections, because of the impact of the pandemic and put in connection with the restrictive measures the number of hungry people in the world could rise to 132 million the WFP estimates that this number threatens to be more than twice as much. We are talking mainly about the vulnerable countries, the so-called hot spots of hunger.
