Police said that Cain Velasquez, a former champion UFC heavyweight fighter, was arrested for attempted murder following an alleged shooting incident in Northern California.

According to records, Velasquez (39), was taken into custody Monday in San Jose. He is currently being held at Santa Clara County Main Jail without bail. He is due to appear in court Wednesday.

He did not immediately know if he had an attorney who could speak for him.

According to the San Jose Police Department, officers responded to a shooting on Monday and found a man suffering at least one gunshot wound. The department stated that the man was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Velasquez was taken into custody in connection with the shooting, but police are still investigating what caused it.

After retiring from MMA in 2019, Velasquez switched to pro-wrestling. He was a former UFC heavyweight champion and earned title belts for UFC in 2010 as well as 2012.
