the Surgeons of the Sevastopol city hospital No. 5 saved the life of a newborn baby that was born with a rare serious disease – diaphragmatic hernia and respiratory failure, reported the press service of the government of Sevastopol.

Operation baby held on the second day after birth. Without the help of doctors he could not survive.

– In the diaphragm is formed an opening, and the abdominal organs move into the chest, putting pressure on the lungs and heart, – told head of children’s surgical Department of the hospital Vasiliy Ignatiev. – In the thoracic cavity of a newborn was the right kidney, the left lobe of the liver, the intestines and of the stomach. They were squeezing her right lung and put pressure on the left.

Doctors performed the surgery a minimally invasive technique of thoracoscopy: a small puncture of the chest to put the organs in the abdominal cavity and eliminate the defect in the diaphragm.

at First the baby was in intensive care on a ventilator. Gradually he had regained his breath, closed up the aperture a little patient on the mend and is now at the Department of neonatology under the supervision of experts.

This pathology is very rare: over 10 years in Sevastopol held only six such operations. In the world dies from 35 to 70 percent of children with this diagnosis.

to carry out the operation successfully allowed the qualification of the surgeons and the necessary medical equipment. As noted by the chief of Department, on the Crimean Peninsula such operations do only in 5-th city hospital of Sevastopol.
