But for many decades no one comes to the grave of the Prince Vadbolsky in the village of Lubień Odoevsky County of the Tula province – the estate where he died in 1861.

the Path to the memorial Lubien is not close and not easy. The village is not here for nearly half a century after the dissolution of the kolkhoz. Places deaf and difficult of access. Now the territory of Dubensky district of Tula region.

the Remains of a stone-paved road, mixed with the soil, lead me to the ruins of the temple of the Kazan icon of the Mother of God. According to the documents it is known that he built in 1779, had a chapel in the name of Sainted Nicholas the Wonderworker and school diplomas. Now here is the ruin, desolation, silence. And hardly guessed an abandoned and overgrown cemetery.

most Likely, on it and buried the heroic General of Napoleon’s battles.

Prince Ivan M. Vadbolsky was born in St. Petersburg in 1781. He was the second child in the family of Colonel Prince Mikhail Vadbolsky and Princess Nastasia Mikhailovna, née Tarakanova, a former “lady-in-waiting Her Imperial Majesty”. Ten-year-old boy was recorded as a Sergeant in the life guards Preobrazhensky regiment. And after only fourteen years in the rank of captain participated with the life-guard Horse regiment in the battle of Austerlitz and was awarded a Golden sword “For courage”.

In 1807, at Friedland, was wounded “in the neck by a bullet” and for a brilliant attack, my squadron was awarded the order of St .. George 4-th degree and the Prussian order “For dignity.”

In 1812, as a Colonel and commanding the Mariupol hussar regiment, Vadbolsky participated “in the Affairs under the Ashmyany, the Cauldrons, the Beshenkovichi”. Near Vitebsk, “commanding the 2nd line cavalry, kept order and enforced the attacker successfully”1, for which he was awarded the order of St .. Anne 2 nd degree. At Smolensk “fearlessness and hrabrosti submitted themselves subordinate example”2 – the award of the order of St .. Vladimir 3rd degree. Of Borodino fought on the left flank of the Russian army, was wounded “by buckshot in the head” – the second time awarded the order of St .. Vladimir 3rd degree.

But even more famous for our hero to small (guerrilla) war with the French, when established by order of the Kutuzov partisan detachment of the Prince Vadbolsky acted in obedience to major General Dorokhov all the best for. Here is a chronological excerpts from “the Journal of military operations” 1812:

“September 22nd. Colonel Prince Vadbolsky conveys that sent him parties killed more than 100 French marauders”3.

“September 26th. Colonel Prince Vadbolsky’s report of 25 September that he intends to move into the village Sivkovo, including between Vereya and Mozhaisk, and the party destroyed it to 100 and captured 16 people,”4.

“October 5th. General-major Dorokhov report that Colonel Prince VDBol, being notified of the(b) the unit of French cavalry, EN route to number 500 people to the village Kamensky, attacked the add with the cavalry and, despite the desperate resistance of the enemy, broke it, put in place more than 100 people and captured 4 officers and 32 men of the lower ranks”5.

He distinguished himself in the capture Vereisky fortifications, participated in the liberation of Maloyaroslavets, Vyazma, Dorogobuzh, of, red, Borisov, Foreign campaigns. 21 may 1813 was promoted to major General, and for the battle of La Rothière, where he was wounded “with a broadsword in the right side”, was awarded the order of St .. George 3rd degree.

Thirteen years later, he went to war with Persia, where he earned the rank of Lieutenant General and synov’û love subordinates. In the memoirs of N. N. Muraviev-Karski about the Caucasian war, is often found the name of the Prince Vadbolsky, “whose soldiers on his military prowess and appearance is called Saint Nicholas… great virtues, direct, modest, truthful, brave, cheerful, pleasant society, smart, pretty educated, eloquent, honest, experienced and quick-witted in dealing with people, but stingy without measure and is not always temperate in the consumption of spirits… at least as Prince Ivan Mikhailovich was a General love and respect”6.

That’s what I was reminded of the ruins of the temple, near which lies the great son of the Motherland.

In 1829, Lieutenant-General Prince Vadbolsky was dismissed on leave “to cure disease, from the hurt that is happening.” A vacation spent in his estate, the village of Lubień, inherited from his grandfather. And four years later was “dismissed from service for wounds with uniform and full pension salary”. Three years later died “from a water disease”7 his wife, Princess Vera G. – daughter of Lieutenant-General Baron Engelhardt.

In the service of the Prince was 35 years and 8 months. In his memoirs N. N. Ants-Kara will write about Ivan Mikhailovich: “Vadbolsky was a true knight …now he lives without a job in the village your”8. Evidence about how the earth ended the way Prince has not been preserved. As marks his final resting place.

… I have to go back. Last glance around the tract Lubien over the river Cherepet. Somewhere beyond time noisy motley peasant crowd. Somewhere over the Borodino field heard the command voice General Vadbolsky. I want to believe that it will hear the descendants. And above all – fellow countrymen from the city of Russian weapon glory.

General Ivan Vadbolsky decent last military honors.
