April 20, 1829, the Emperor Nicholas I approved the submission of the Governor-General Dmitry Golitsyn on the establishment of the Committee under the command of the commandant of Moscow for the construction of Tver in front of the entrance to Moscow Triumphal gate. 11 Oct 1834 the Triumphal arch was inaugurated. The ceremony was attended by the troops of the Moscow garrison, officials of the Moscow police. Among them were veterans who had medals in memory of 1812 and the capture of Paris, — six generals, 34 staff officer, 65 chief officers, 301 non-commissioned officer, 846 ordinary. the Triumphal arch stood near the Tver Gates 102 years. In 1936, the square was redesigned and the gates demolished. In 1966 by the decision of the city Council, they were recreated at the new location on Kutuzovsky Prospekt.
