the Artist with the magical name of Aladdin conducts quarantine days as usual – at work in his Studio on the 13th floor. For the master at all times important privacy – you can do only in private. And the “MK” in the loop “Art of Life” went to a place of creative solitude – at the top of the tower, where Aladdin of Garunov creates pictures of the rugs, furs, rubber and used shoes.

a native of the village of UKUZ Ikra district (Dagestan) Aladdin Garunov been living and working in Moscow. Moved here in 1977. Settled first as a mechanic on the ZIL, but was quickly promoted to the position of graphic designer. Then he entered and successfully graduated from the MGHPA them. Stroganov (Department of artistic metal processing). Already started looking for his own style, drawing on the avant-garde art and the historical traditions of the Motherland. Even in his early painting Garunova 1990-ies made free strokes, you have to read the structure of the ornament. And it’s not decorative patterns, and semantic images. Over time, the artist began to intersperse in the canvases and objects of real life, forcing them to speak the language of art. Carpet is a favorite character Garunova – acts in his work like the text – system of signs and symbols with which he talks about national and religious identity, globalization, and the fate of the peoples of modernity and ancient culture. On his canvases collide and at the same time engaged in dialogue East and West, past and future.

Today Garunov is a recognized contemporary artist. Finalist of two awards Kandinsky in 2010 and 2012. Participant of numerous exhibitions and art fairs. His work has been shown in Miami, Dubai, Paris, Venice etc. the Last years of Garunov working in the Moscow workshop on the top floor of 13-storey towers. It has developed around its world on the one hand, filled with various objects and materials that he incorporates in his works, on the other – clean and sterile Aladdin – a real perfectionist.

the questions of “MK” he replied in his conceptual style is written by hand. Who knows, maybe these writings, ornate inscribed on paper, would become part of his new job.

– What is your personal creativity zone? What a space, its mood, the drink? Does it matter the size, wall color, window view, the absence (or presence of) extended attributes (maybe books)?

– My Studio is on the last floor of a thirteen-storey tower. I am glad that no one is above us. On the ground floor workshops of the Union of artists of Moscow region in city Khimki. The style and atmosphere of the workshop has developed a vintage, many books, many objects from the everyday life of man, obsolete your life and revitalized my Studio. I am glad that a lot of light from the large Windows. I’m obsessed with cleanliness and order. Start to run when all laid out on their seats and sterile clean.

is it Important for you loneliness while working in the Studio? Can you work, if there is someone else?

– it is very important communicate with kindred spirits to me people – with them to be on the same wavelength. But this communication should not be during my work. If you come to me people I won’t work, even if I’m comfortable with them and well. I’ll be with them to drink tea, chat, but after to continue, I have to be alone. This also applies to his wife and son, although he is also a graduate of the art school.

How long can you stay in the Studio alone? A few days, weeks, months and not go in white light?

the Workshop is not only a place to work, I live in it and only once a week trips home to his wife. But I can’t be forever in the Studio, I need to people, have normal human interaction.

– How important is it for you food, when inspiration strikes? Do you have your recipes to fuel creative activity.

– it Does not matter. I have several years of eating rice, buckwheat, sometimes noodles, mixing some of it with roasted chicken or Turkey. I’m lazy, and I don’t know how and don’t want to cook. But when I come home to my wife, we are having a blast. Home with my wife I am becoming a foodie and even allow themselves a couple of glasses of good wine or coffee, which are trying to prevent me doctors. Creative activity I’m very lazy and force myself to work, warming themselves with delusions of grandeur. Seriously, I am obsessed with creating work with a strong inner energy with external simplicity and minimalism.

– it is said that many artists work in “altered state”? Is it for you? What helps you sink into it?

– I was still a student at art school for five years trying to see in this “altered state”, but it didn’t. Love a good wine and the important thing is not the wine, and with whom I’m in a warm and sincere atmosphere over a bottle of wine there. And creative as I am always, especially in the subway, when you see bodies, I see them not as people but as a form of art. To me, the artist and sculptor, moved in, when I went under the table. Once told me I was in a past life was masteralloy.

People in order to live in the apartment for a few months needs to buy food. And what should be in your workshop for two months in addition to the products? Specifically – what materials?

– As I said in the workshop should be as free space for creating work. I work mostly on the floor, creating objects from carpet, rubber, used shoes, furs, tar, bringing these strange non-related items in the idea of ethno and techno. Paints I don’t need much. I use acrylic, which buys close to the OBI. Stocks of other materials I keep on the back stairs to exit onto the roof.

– what, in your opinion, mass self-isolation will change our world? How to affect the culture?

– the World will not remain the same, it is a tough time that will lead to the impoverishment of the population. When people will overcome this burden, fails with a nostalgia for the truly valuable. Will be in demand not inflated names, but really strong and good artists of major museums.
