Scientists have developed the technology to create polymer coatings that will protect materials from wetting and damaging effects of microorganisms.

Researchers from the Volgograd state technical University has set itself the task of producing such coatings that are completely waterproof (superhydrophobic) or absorbent (superhydrophilic) water. Thus the production process should be inexpensive and available in Russia.

“For the production of such coatings, we have developed new polymers that make them more sustainable, explains head of project, candidate of chemical Sciences Victor Klimov. – They change the surface properties of a material without affecting its settings in General, and promising, for example, to separate oil-water emulsions and make the surface of the subject’s ability to cleanse itself”.

This protection is relevant to many sectors of the economy – in energy, aviation, telecommunication systems, housing and communal services, as well as when working in the Arctic zone, because the modern methods of struggle against the same ice is ineffective.
