Scientists at the University of calgary have found that bats and primates have the greatest resistance to intoxication among all the animals. This writes the Journal of the Royal Society Interface.

The researchers analyzed more than 85 species of mammals. First, they determined the presence or absence of a gene ADH7, the enzyme which neytralizuya the influence of alcohol (C2H5OH).

The experts then checked how often a particular animal eats the fruit during fermentation which produces ethanol. It turned out that primates and bats can 40 times better withstand intoxication.

It is noted that the data will help scientists in the development of new ways of dealing with alcoholism. Previously, the boar named Hromek was found drunk on one of the farms in Poland a week after the disappearance.
