MOSCOW, may 5 – RIA Novosti. The number of calls about domestic violence, according to some NGOs, has grown in the period of the pandemic in 2.5 times, said in an interview with RIA Novosti, the Commissioner for human rights Tatyana Moskalkova.

Previously, a number of respondents RIA Novosti crisis centres for women reported coming to them complaints from victims of domestic violence associated with the withdrawal, and requests for assistance in the period of limitations.

According to her, a number of human rights defenders lock into the pandemic a sharp increase in the number of calls to the hotline from victims of abuse by spouses and themselves acts of aggression in France 30% and in China by more than 25%.

In the office of the Commissioner of such appeal is received by the hotline, but they are not widespread. According to the Ombudsman, this may be related with the fear of victims to be subjected to violence from seeking help.

“I think there is a problem in communication. Mail may not work, and electronic media are not always convenient for a person who is a victim of domestic violence because the use of gadget for a signal of violence is dangerous for him. We monitor the media on this topic, and the picture is not optimistic enough”, – said Moskalkova.
