Professor, Department of bioengineering, Moscow state University and the medical center at the University of Leiden Alexander Gorbalenya said that the new coronavirus has infected millions of people in the world, and, most likely, it will remain with humanity forever. It is reported by RIA Novosti.

Gorbalenya said that 17 years ago during the epidemic of SARS-CoV infected only ten thousand people. Then it was possible to identify all infected, to isolate and interrupt the epidemic. With the new coronavirus to repeat it failed.

“Even now, we have a very rough idea of the number of infected people in the world. Certainly there are millions of them”, – said the scientist.

He noted that in countries with good health systems the epidemic could slow down or even pause because of the quarantine.

In countries where there is no such possibility of the epidemic are “no significant delay” that may lead to a steady circulation of coronavirus.

According to Gorbalenya similar way and old coronaviruses. It gives hope that even if SARS-CoV-2 will be another persistent circulating virus of the person, its virulence will be changed and it will become more dangerous.

I wrote “the Rambler”, by the morning of 7 may in the world have identified more than 3.7 million infected with the novel coronavirus. Of these, almost 264 thousand people died, more than 1.2 million recovered.
