an international group composed of Moroccan and French archaeologists during the excavations at the archaeological site “Thomas I” in Casablanca found executed in a previously unknown technique of stone tools Dating back one million years.

About the opening with reference to the Ministry of culture, youth and sport of Morocco tells Archaeology&Arts. Archaeologists have discovered a large number of artifacts that belong to the so-called Acheulian culture. It is believed that it originated about 1.76 million years ago. Representatives of Acheulian culture, according to conventional theory, the first left the territory of Africa.

Archaeologists found a large number of flint tools, made in previously unknown techniques. Many of the tools were quite small. Length of the largest of them not exceeding six inches. However, scientists believe that the purpose of the ancient masters was the production of this very small elongated tools. For this and applied a special technology of processing of stones.

Flint tools were discovered in archaeological level L1, which dates back to at least one million years. By the way, there was a larger weapon, for example, axes and spherical and hemispherical tools.

In his work, which will be published in the journal Scientific Reports, the researchers write that the detection of very small tools testifies to the technical diversity of Acheulian culture.

in addition, it sheds new light on the question of the potential of these ancient ancestors of the people – he was probably far more significant from the point of view of skills, knowledge and ability to adapt to new needs than previously thought.

Large tools, found here, confirmed the existing hypothesis about the evolution of the Acheulian culture. She is believed to have arisen on the basis of the earlier Oldowan culture.

the Findings indicate that Acheulian group really represented a more advanced branch of evolution. This is indicated by notched face of stone axes. The ability to sharpen the brink, the authors called the technological aspect that distinguishes these two culture in evolutionary terms.
