the Exhibition takes place simultaneously in the Mikhailovsky Palace, the Benois wing Stroganov and marble palaces. Many of the works are familiar to art lovers in the Museum’s permanent exhibition. For the exhibition they do not even have to move to other halls. As they say in the Russian Museum, then I would have had to outweigh a good part of the exhibit, as gifts from royalty, private collectors and artists was one of the foundations of replenishment of Museum Fund.

So, for example, “the Volga boatmen” and “Sadko” in the halls of the permanent exhibition dedicated to the works of Repin. But next to these paintings appeared an information plate stating that the work was purchased by Alexander III and transferred to the Museum. Participation in the creation of the collection of the Russian Museum has taken other sovereigns. For example, Nicholas II and his family acquired for the Museum more than 250 works of art.

Scientific project Manager – Deputy General Director of the Russian Museum for scientific work Evgeny Petrov – draws attention to the approach to the formation of the collection. For example, it is known that Nicholas II cool attitude to the works of Valentin Serov, but nevertheless, on the posthumous exhibition of the artist at the direction of the Emperor was purchased approximately 15 works. Now they are in the Benois wing of the permanent exhibition. Along with the works of artists, the Wanderers, the members of the Imperial family gave the Museum and the work of other artists. The organizers of the exhibition tried to collect a slice of Russian art in all its manifestations.

– the creation of the Russian Museum were attended by merchants, and entrepreneurs, and commoners, – said the Director of the State Russian Museum Vladimir Gusev. – In the list of donors – 564 name. And this exhibition – thanks to those who created the first in Russia Museum of Russian art, which is today the country’s largest national Museum.

in Addition to the work that each citizen knows what is called at school, the exhibition shows how paintings that are not on permanent display. For example, visitors can see works related to the Japanese period of creativity of Vasily Vereshchagin.

And these amazing discoveries at the exhibition a lot. In the Benois wing exhibition rooms display works of the late XIX – mid-twentieth century.
