The jury in Amber Heard vs. Johnny Depp has the floor following Friday’s closing arguments. They must come to a unanimous verdict. The committee began deliberations on Friday afternoon – trial observers did not expect a lightning verdict.

The jury will use a 24-question verdict form to determine whether Depp wins his civil defamation lawsuit against Heard.

The sentencing form in the Depp-Heard trial is divided into five points. Three points each deal with a statement from Heard’s contribution to the Washington Post, on which the jury is asked to answer the same eight questions. Depp accuses Heard of making false statements. These statements and questions are important:

If so: Has Depp proved through a higher burden of proof that…

If each question was answered with yes:

If each question was answered with yes:

If the answer to all of the above questions is yes, finding Heard guilty of defamation, the jury will award two awards: compensatory damages and punitive damages, which Heard must pay to Depp. The USA have established the so-called “punitive damages” in order not only to pay the victim compensation for pain and suffering, but also to achieve a preventive effect with the sum.

Depp is demanding $50 million in damages for defamation. Heard counterclaims $100 million. She claims that Depp’s ex-lawyer Adam Waldman damaged her reputation with a smear campaign. Heard’s counterclaim will be decided separately, and there is also a questionnaire for this that has a similar structure. The entire document can be found here (in English).
