In his words, “the Power of Siberia-2” can become the basis for a new channel of export of gas through Mongolia to China, with a capacity of up to 50 billion cubic meters per year.

Earlier it was planned to build “Power of Siberia-2” on the route through the Altai mountains in the Eastern region of China. This project was often criticised because of the difficulties in its technical implementation, environmental problems and high cost. At the end of last year, it was decided to change the route of the gas pipeline, having built it through the territory of Mongolia. The pipeline length will be more, but it will take place mainly on the steppe areas, which will reduce the cost of its construction. In addition, this route will deliver Russian gas directly to the densely populated region of Central China, as well as connect to the pipeline of Mongolian consumers. Resource base the “Power of Siberia 2” will be existing fields in Western Siberia.
