This is a seasonal phenomenon, although recurring not every year, caused by the arrival on the shelves of the new harvest. Now (week 4-10 August) the main cause of deflation is the decline in vegetable prices, which is observed for three consecutive weeks.

Slowing inflation contributes to the decline in consumer demand resulting from the pandemic. Given this, the Bank of Russia this summer, quickly reduced the key rate to maintain the annual growth rate of prices at the target level of 4%.

As reported to Rosstat, in the last week the vegetable prices dropped by 2.8% (previous week was 2.3%, two weeks earlier 1.1 percent), including potato prices declined by 4.6% (a week earlier 5.2%), tomatoes – 3.9% (previous week 5.3%), onion – by 3.8% (the previous week by 3.7%), cucumbers – by 3.3% (previous week by 3%). Continued lower prices for apples by 2.4% (the previous week they first fell 1.1 percent).

Among the other food products (excluding) vegetables significantly increased prices for sugar- by 1%.

gasoline Prices rose by 0.1%, diesel fuel has not changed.
