Marcel Sabitzer’s first season at Bayern Munich didn’t go as the former Leipzig captain had imagined. But the Austrian doesn’t want to be deterred – and once again sets his sights on the starting eleven.

Tough first year: Marcel Sabitzer’s first Bayern season was mixed. Nevertheless, the Austrian midfielder wants to start again after the summer break: “I will believe in my chances from day one and try to do my thing. I believe in my strengths, I haven’t forgotten anything. I just couldn’t unfold it that way.”

Short, compact, clear

Season balance: The 28-year-old struggled with initial difficulties in the past season. Across all competitions, he only made 32 appearances in 47 games, and he only played nine times from the start. Only once is he successful in front of goal, once more he prepares a goal. There is no record that Sabitzer can be satisfied with, after all he was still a star player at Leipzig.

Nevertheless, he wants to bite: But the Austrian doesn’t want to be defeated: “It shaped me somewhere to go through such a phase. It’s tough but doesn’t hurt in hindsight because I’m mentally strong enough to take something positive out of it.”
