At least one person has died and six more were injured after a car rammed the terrace of a bar in Paris, France, having reportedly been driven at full speed. Police have launched a manhunt for the suspect, who fled the scene.

The incident occurred around 11pm at a sports bar in Paris’ 17th district, French media reported. A police source, cited by Le Parisien, said the car swerved into the establishment after a collision with another vehicle.

The driver reportedly fled the scene on foot and is now being sought by police. His passenger was also injured in the crash, and is reported to be in a serious condition. According to an eyewitness account of the event, the car first mowed down a woman crossing the street before veering onto the terrace and hitting several more people. On its Twitter feed, the police urged residents to stay away from the area to allow them to carry out an investigation.

The mayor of the 17th district, Geoffroy Boulard, expressed his condolences to the families of the victims, calling the crash “a tragic road accident.”
