After the British government, Portugal also approved the takeover of the English first division club FC Chelsea by a consortium led by US businessman Todd Boehly. This was announced by the Portuguese Foreign Ministry on Thursday.

Green light from Portugal: Approval for the sale of the Portuguese FC Chelsea was necessary because the previous owner Roman Abramovich, who is on the EU sanctions list because of the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine, also has Portuguese citizenship. The Premier League had previously approved the deal.

Humanitarian purposes: The approval was made possible because the British authorities had guaranteed that the proceeds from the sale would be used for humanitarian purposes and would not directly or indirectly benefit the owner of the club, the Portuguese ministry said.

Five billion euros: According to information from London, the price for the London club around coach Thomas Tuchel and the DFB internationals Timo Werner and Kai Havertz is 4.25 billion pounds (almost five billion euros). This is intended to support war victims in Ukraine.
