“It was my fault,” Jagr said, adding, “I was going to go through the intersection. I checked one side and left at the right time. But there was a lot of traffic and I didn’t have time to react to the tram who was driving at high speed in the same direction as me.”
Jagr only noticed the tram coming in “half a meter away”. Despite the violent collision, he was able to get out of his car without injuries. “I thought this was the end of me. I have always believed that a higher power has her hand over me and today I saw it again. Thank God,” says Jagr. “The most important thing is that nothing happened to the passengers on the tram.”
The 50-year-old played 1,733 games in the American NHL between 1990 and 2018 and scored a total of 766 goals. In 2005 and 2010 Jagr won the Ice Hockey World Championship with the Czech Republic. The 1998 Olympic gold in Nagano is one of his career highlights. Even at the age of 50, he is still active on the ice. Jagr is now chasing goals for HC Kladno in his home country. He is far from thinking about the end of his career.
