MOSCOW, may 4/ Radio Sputnik. The Ambassador of Ukraine in Germany Andrey Melnik offered to bet former Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder after his words on the Crimean Peninsula, says “Constantinople”.

Schroeder earlier in an interview with Tagesspiegel expressed the opinion that no Russian President will never return Crimea to Ukraine. He felt it necessary to cancel anti-Russian sanctions, stressing that cooperation with Moscow is particularly necessary in the current economic situation.

Commenting on his words, Miller suggested a kind of wager: “even during his lifetime Crimea will certainly return to the bosom of mother-Ukraine”.

Crimea became a Russian region after held there in March 2014 referendum, in which 96.8% of voters in Crimea and 95.6% of residents of Sevastopol voted for joining Russia. Crimean authorities held a referendum after a coup in Ukraine in February 2014.

the Russian Leadership has repeatedly stated that the inhabitants of Crimea democratically in full compliance with international law and the UN Charter voted for reunification with Russia. According to the Russian President, the question of Crimea “closed permanently”.
