From May 13th to 29th the Ice Hockey World Championship will take place in Tampere and Helsinki. The preliminary round matches of the 16 participating teams are still running.
The Ice Hockey World Championship will only be broadcast on free TV this year on Sport1. In addition, customers of Magenta Sport or Joyn can watch the game in the live stream. The game between France and Germany will be broadcast from 19:20.

The national ice hockey players Lukas Reichel and Leon Gawanke have been eliminated from the second-rate North American AHL and are at least theoretically alternatives for the World Cup. When asked on Monday morning, the German Ice Hockey Federation (DEB) could not say whether both players would travel to Finland or what the chances were.
“I still know nothing. We were in contact before the playoffs. Both have shown interest before, but I don’t know what the health situation is like,” said national coach Toni Söderholm before the game on Monday evening against the French in Helsinki: “I’m waiting to get an answer from them about their health looks and then we decide what to do.”
The AHL season with the Rockford IceHogs ended for striker Reichel as well as for defender Gawanke with the Manitoba Moose on Sunday (local time). The 22-year-old Gawanke and Reichel were in the World Cup squad last year when the German team surprisingly reached the semi-finals in Riga. The former Berliner Reichel, who turns 20 on Tuesday, also played 11 games for the Chicago Blackhawks in the NHL in his first North American season.
Söderholm can register players for the World Cup because he has not officially allocated all 25 squad places. So far, four North American professionals have been included in the squad: Philipp Grubauer (Seattle Kraken), Moritz Seider (Detroit Red Wings) and Tim Stützle (Ottawa Senators) from the NHL, as well as AHL forward Marc Michaelis (Toronto Marlies). The DEB had already announced that top star Leon Draisaitl was “not an issue” for the World Cup before the Edmonton Oilers progressed in the NHL playoffs.
With a 3: 5 against record world champion Canada and a 2: 1 against Slovakia, the World Cup fourth in 2021 and Olympic tenth started the tournament. The quarter-final qualification was issued as the minimum goal.
