The FDP politician and lawyer Karoline Preisler has withdrawn her candidacy for the office of constitutional judge in the state of Brandenburg, according to information from the news portal t-online. The Brandenburg FDP had nominated her for the volunteer position.

In an email, Preisler now informed FDP country chief Zyon Braun that she was no longer available for the post. She decided “after a long struggle” not to “uphold” the candidacy. “Events in my private life and reports about them have currently made headlines,” writes Preisler: “In order to avert damage to the dignity of the office of a constitutional judge and my democratic homeland, I am no longer standing for election.” It was “an honor” for her to be nominated. Preisler announced that he would continue to work “for a liberal and well-fortified democracy”.

Last week it became known that Preisler’s longtime partner, the FDP member of the Bundestag Hagen Reinhold, is now in a relationship with the former porn actress and current entrepreneur Annina Semmelhaack. Semmelhaack had completed an internship in Reinhold’s office as part of a women’s promotion program. Preisler and Reinhold have three children together.
