The football world is getting crazier with its mega sponsors, oligarchs and even whole states funding clubs. Bayern Munich CEO Oliver Kahn does not want to take part in this madness and is clearly positioning himself.

Kahn speaks plain language: Oliver Kahn has clearly spoken out against the entry of shady major sponsors at FC Bayern Munich. “Oligarchs will definitely not play a role here. They never have, they never will,” Kahn told the “vbw-Unternehmermagazin”. The CEO added that in today’s football world, not only oligarchs, but whole states would hold shares in clubs.

Short, compact, clear

And the rules? With regard to financial fair play the Bayern boss is skeptical: Violations must be clearly sanctioned – in monetary as well as in sporting terms. “If that’s only done halfway, then football’s credibility will slowly start to deteriorate,” said Kahn.

Bayern are still planning for the long term: Finally, Kahn admits that of course all strategies would count for nothing if the next game was not won. But it’s still clear to the goalkeeper icon: “Just because we don’t win a game on Saturday or maybe even drop out of a competition doesn’t mean I can question the entire strategy.”
