“Stay home!” This call is in all the Newspapers. It is repeated by the Federal councils and subject matter experts at every opportunity strongly. The President asks the population to comply with this rule.

The urgent invitation, stay home, also applies to my Generation. In my environment, all is not keep in mind. “There is no absolute ban, just a call to action,” will argued.

at Home, the risk is smallest

With these lines I would like to turn to my Old colleagues: Yes, we can’t love ourselves as a high-risk group call. But older and chronically ill people are more vulnerable. A strong flu can weaken us tremendously. Therefore, a lot of have the inoculation. Against the Coronavirus, there is no drug. We must do everything to avoid infection. At home, the risk is the smallest.

Yes, we want to ride long our life without the assistance best. We are accustomed to make purchases when it suits us. This is lived out in freedom. For offered help we don’t feel old enough. This is wrong: to accept help to learn means that solidarity among generations is passed on. We are pleased, however, when the children ask what they might be shopping, or if the neighbor Spätzli offers. How nice that the spatial distance does not affect the human. Solidarity is re-defined.

“Our limitation is not against”

I know: limitations of fall for us. But we are privileged: Our pension is secured. In contrast to our hairdresser, who has to reject customers, the owner of the Papeterie, had to close the business, and to the host, which fears for its existence. Let’s not forget: they were forced to take these measures. Since our restriction is nothing against it.

Yes, I feel healthy and think I would have a good chance to survive a disease. But if it hits me, then I can take maybe a young family, father with heart attack or of the young injured woman in the place on the intensive care unit. I don’t want to.

“Were you in solidarity!”

So I understand the dramatic call to decision-makers in the extraordinary emergency of our country. You know the facts: If the Coronavirus is spreading too fast, then the stations are intensely totally overloaded. The consequences could be disastrous.

Therefore, I judge this a big request to make of you, dear readers: Stay at home! You are in solidarity! This is our contribution to save lives.

I thank you for that.

Christine Egerszegi-Obrist, Mellingen AG

old Councillor of state / President of the Austrian Parliament 06/07
