The financial situation of FC Barcelona remains catastrophic. Nevertheless, transfers are urgently needed. This forces those responsible to take drastic action.

Salary cuts for stars too? FC Barcelona is said to want to halve the salaries of its professionals, reports “Bild” and refers to the “Mundo Deportivo”. The only exceptions are players who have been committed since winter or whose contracts have recently been extended. Stars like Sergio Busquets, Gerard Piqué and Jordi Alba are also affected. It is unclear whether the requirement would also apply to planned additions – for example for Robert Lewandowski.

Short, compact, clear

Looking for new sources of income: Debts of more than 1.3 billion euros threaten to crush FC Barcelona. After all, the Catalans’ deal with Spotify and the sale of shares and television rights provide fresh capital. Whether that will be enough remains to be seen.

Difficult transfers: Coach and Barcelona legend Xavi demands new players from the club bosses. However, it is questionable whether the transfers can be realized. Financial fair play will also become an issue for the Catalans if they don’t resolve their financial woes.
