The idea of raising taxes for wealthy citizens is already being implemented in Russia. This drew the attention of the press Secretary of the President Dmitry Peskov, commenting on the petition, which more than 80 millionaires around the world urged governments to increase taxes on wealth.
"In Russia already [implemented]," – said Peskov told TASS answering the question, how in the Kremlin relate to this idea.
Earlier on Millionaires for Humanity has a petition, where more than 80 millionaires from USA, UK, Germany, New Zealand, Canada and the Netherlands urged to raise taxes on the wealth to the richest people in the world helped to overcome the consequences of the pandemic coronavirus. Among the signatories of millionaires are the heir of Walt Disney film Director Abigail Disney, British screenwriter and Director Richard Curtis, founder of the confectionery company Ben & Jerry's Jerry Greenfield and others.
Russian President Vladimir Putin in his address to the Russians on 23 June proposed that from 1 January 2021 to increase the personal income tax for citizens with income more than 5 million rubles per year from 13% to 15%. The head of state noted that the increased tax will be imposed only on the amount which exceeds 5 million rubles. This will give the budget about 60 billion roubles will be directed on treatment of seriously ill children.
Also in Russia for several years is the so-called luxury tax – the higher coefficients of the transport tax in respect of expensive cars.
