Special envoy of the UN Secretary General on Syria, Geir Pedersen, urged Russia and the United States to continue the dialogue on the Syrian issue.

"I want to emphasize that the resumption of full international cooperation, and building trust between the international players and Syrians remains critical to unlocking progress," he said Monday, speaking at a meeting of the UN Security Council via videoconference.

"I believe that Russian-American dialogue plays a key role in this, and I encourage him to continue", – said Pedersen.

However, he expressed the opinion that the efforts of the Astana format (Russia, Iran, Turkey) and the so-called small group for Syria (UK, Germany, Egypt, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, USA, France) should be United under the auspices of the UN.
