Employees of the US state Department avoided personal meetings with the leader of the Ukrainian party “Fatherland” Yulia Tymoshenko, because he believed it a Pro-Russian politician. Bolton described his visit to Kiev during the last presidential elections in Ukraine. So, in 2018, the politician arranged a meeting with the representatives of Ukrainian authorities and the opposition. Bolton spoke with the leaders of parliamentary factions, among them Tymoshenko. However, a personal meeting with the leader of “Batkivshchyna” decided not to make because the state Department believed that it is close to Russia.
While at the time, Tymoshenko was considered the most likely candidate for the post of President in the event of defeat in the elections, Petro Poroshenko, said “Strenia”.
