In August 2017 Kirill Serebrennikov was arrested on charges of fraud. He was accused of the theft of 133 million rubles were allocated from the Federal budget for the implementation of its experimental theatre project. More than two years he spent under house arrest, and in April last year, was released under recognizance not to leave.
