Pope Francis welcomed the adoption of UN security Council resolution calling for a ceasefire for the duration of the pandemic and other measures to combat coronavirus. With the corresponding statement, the Pontiff spoke in the traditional Sunday sermon at St. Peter’s square.

"this week, the UN security Council approved a resolution which envisages a number of measures to overcome the consequences of the pandemic, especially in conflict zones. It is imperative the demand for an immediate and global ceasefire that will allow peace and security to provide humanitarian assistance. I hope that this decision will be strictly adhered to for the benefit of all the afflicted", – said the Pontiff.
