Your name Svejk received before the birth of Hasek. Older brother of writer Joseph lived for several days. Hasek did not able to forget about it. My protagonist he gave the name of the brother who never had even a little to live… Hasek spent his whole life in beer and pubs, but was known as a man completely frivolous, is not much valued. But drat.
Bretschneider was not exactly happy with his portrait. Known then as the whole city of Prague FieldTurf of IBL (Katz), which Svejk says: “I like it when people become idiots in the square.” Vanek, Chodounsky, Marek, Nuts… All in different attitudes to their unexpected fame. Cadet Hans bigler was not a cadet – he was done with the Hasek school the volunteers, then became a paramedic. While here Lieutenant Rudolf Lukas ended the war with the rank of major, and Hasek only spoke well, emphasizing that he was a worthy and decent person.
This captain Sagner, like Lucas, he served faithfully and was a brave officer, he was honored and high military decorations. And died in 1927 in a psychiatric hospital. The then post-war syndrome no one seriously considered… Who laugh help, and some don’t. Hasek laughed all his life. Well, he was joking all my life. Very short and bright life. And the novel was never finished.
This book has been translated into 58 languages, including Esperanto. The Bible, the journalism of Lenin and Agatha Christie ahead of her only by the number of instances. And if you think you know the novel “the good soldier Svejk…”, reading the Russian translation, you’re wrong. Translations Suckow and G. P. Bogatyreva executed in good faith, but… And it’s not just that Hasek didn’t care about censorship. Even read the novel in Czech, not really knowing Bohemian life, until the device stands in the pub, names of dog breeds and very special names and characteristics of alcoholic beverages… almost impossible! Much even in the dictionary you will not find. Moreover, dictionaries have at least four or Czech, German, Hungarian and Slovak. Hasek was fluent in these languages, and know Russian, a little French and quite fluent in Romani, Tatar and Bashkir, as well as mastered the basics of Chinese and Korean.
So whoever translated this book, there are things impossible. The language in which is written the novel, so beautiful, so accurate, full of details and shades that read this book in the original too… absolutely impossible! Though, because fits of laughter more often than when reading a translation.
the novel is written almost without drafts, the last part is dictated – and almost didn’t require editing, so Hasek owned the skill of the storyteller. But there are a lot of writers, storytellers, and Roman Hasek – one ��s important events in the world of literature. What is the secret?
It may well be that other photo is worse than the most evil cartoon (if you don’t believe look at your own in the passport). So, perhaps there are times, absolutely accurate image which is devastatingly funny. The decline of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, which did not exist at the time of writing the novel, were such a time never to be repeated in history on such a scale and in such colors.
But such an image is not enough to be a writer. Need Hasek – edit the magazine “Life of animals” and come up with the “lizard idiotic” and “bull edible”, sell dyed dogs to work as a pharmacist, selling medicinal herbs for livestock, walk the whole of Eastern Europe, Russia and Siberia, to try all Beers in the Czech Republic… it is not easy to be a writer! And it is not good for health. And Hasek there was still a politician!
