From the point of view of the economy crisis, caused by a coronavirus, was for Europe, even more ambitious than the Eurozone crisis of 2009. However, any difficult situation is always only strengthened the EU, and pandemic is no exception. This was stated by EU high representative for foreign and security policy of Josep Borrell.

"From the point of view of the economy the current crisis, perhaps, really is the most ambitious in the history of the European project, bigger even than the Eurozone crisis of 2009", – quotes RBC policy.

However, according to him, the pandemic will make the EU only stronger because he "was forged in crises". When the European Union begins to undergo a serious test as beyond its borders, and inside she could hear voices, reassuring that he will not stand and will soon disintegrate, said Borrell. Although in the end all crises is only going to benefit Europe and strengthen it, the politician noted.

The head of European diplomacy recognized that in the initial phase of the pandemic, the actions of the EU lacked proper coordination. "However, now we are consistently and successfully fight the virus and its consequences within our borders and with neighbors" said Borrell.

Recall that when the new coronavirus has reached Europe, Brussels was not a single plan of action to combat it, national governments are left to themselves. Subsequently Italy, being one of the most affected by the pandemic countries accused the European Union that he had not provided her with support at the right time. The public has heard allegations that the governments of the Europeans (particularly France and Germany) quit the Italians, refusing to lend a helping hand. In early March, the European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen apologized to Rome.

However, even some time after the beginning of the "coronaries" in Europe, the countries-EU members could not agree on a package of macro-financial assistance to the economy of the block. The discussion took several weeks. And although in the end still managed to take one of the largest in the history of the EU packages totaling more than 500 billion euros, most of that amount of loans, not direct support in the form of grants.
