the demolition of the monument to Marshal Konev in the Czech Republic is regarded by investigators as a rehabilitation of Nazism by the public desecration of symbols of military glory of Russia. About it “lente.ru” has informed the official representative of the Investigative Committee of Russia (TFR) Svetlana Petrenko, explaining the criminal case.

She pointed to a misconception that appeared in the media that the demolition of the monument to the TFR qualified as a new article of the Criminal code of Russian Federation providing responsibility for destruction or damage of military monuments, which came into force in April 2020, ostensibly applying the retroactive effect of the criminal law.

Petrenko said that the investigation is underway under article 354.1 of the criminal code, in force since 2014.

“no question of retroactivity of the criminal law, as well as about the illegality of the adopted procedural decisions can not be”, — said the representative of the TFR.

on April 3 in Prague demolished the monument to Konev. In 2017, the Czech Republic has redefined the role of the Soviet Marshal in the history of the country.
