In the future, Poland could turn into an authoritarian state, predicted the President of the Supreme court małgorzata Gersdorf (Małgorzata Gersdorf). Her words quoted by BBC News.

As noted Gersdorf, the policy of the ruling party “law and justice” further raises the country’s authoritarian tendencies. The judge stressed that while talking about the establishment in Poland of a full-fledged authoritarian regime before, but soon all power in the country concentrated in the hands of one person.

According to the publication, Gersdorf decided to resign as President of the Supreme court after six years on the job. Prior to that, she and her colleagues faced criticism from the ruling party and the President Andrzej Duda, who accused judges that they are “privileged and corrupt caste” and protect exclusively private interests and not the interests of the citizens of the country.

Before operating in Poland as part of the fight against the spread of coronavirus to the Supreme court failed to hold a General meeting to appoint a successor Gersdorf. However, according to BBC News, there is a likelihood that the ruling party will try soon to lobby for the appointment of his protege, thereby strengthening the control over the judicial branch of government in the country.

Earlier in April, the European Parliament criticized the actions of the Polish authorities, accused of neglect of European and democratic values against the backdrop of a pandemic coronavirus. Dissatisfaction with European officials, in particular, was the desire of the current President of Poland to hold appointed in the country on may 10 polls, despite the serious situation with the spread of infection.
