Scientists from the University of Verona (Italy) and University of Valencia (Spain) has proved a reliable link between high air pollution and the level of infection of coronavirus and disease COVID-19. The researchers ‘ findings, which are called the possible cause of infection available in the Preprint, published in the repository medRxiv.
Experts analyzed data on environmental pollution in Italy, taken from the report of the environmental organization Legambiente for the year 2019. They managed to find a positive correlation between the number of days in which the level of air pollution exceeded the established limits, and the total number of cases COVID-19. This relationship remained statistically significant even when account is taken of the cases of infection with coronavirus in terms of per thousand inhabitants.
Thus, living in areas where the amount of pollutants in the air exceeds the allowable limits more than one hundred days a year, almost three times increases the risk of disease COVID-19.
