MPs in Japan will reduce their salaries in solidarity

The ruling and opposition parties of Japan agreed on Tuesday to reduce the salaries of members of both houses of Parliament by 20% in solidarity with the citizens of the country experiencing falling revenues due to the spread of the novel coronavirus. This measure will operate throughout the year, reported the news Agency Kyodo.

After consultations between the parties the bill will be promptly submitted for approval to the Parliament.

The members of both houses in a month get 1 million 294 thousand yen (almost $12 thousand) each. The funds obtained by cutting the salaries of parliamentarians, will go to compensation and benefits in connection with the losses from various constraints related to the spread of infection.
