Millions of orchids were destroyed because of the pandemic coronavirus

because of the coronavirus pandemic in Thailand is a major world exporter of orchids — you have to destroy millions of colors. This writes Bloomberg with reference to the Thai Association of manufacturers of Orchid (Thai Orchid Garden Enterprise Association).

More than half of all orchids that are grown in the country are exported. The major buyers are USA and Europe. The rest is realized at the expense of domestic demand. However, given the pandemic coronavirus flowers stopped buying as international partners and local clients.

Previously, the orchids, which are a symbol of hospitality in Thailand, buying up hotels and restaurants to decorate the rooms, but due to the collapse of the tourism industry flowers were not needed. As a result, total demand for orchids in the Kingdom fell by 95 percent.

“Buyers are actually there, and even if we wanted to export Orchid, we would not have been able to do it. Most passenger flights, which are typically used for transportation, is cancelled”, — stated in the Association.

Earlier it was reported that similar challenges faced the producers of tulips in the Netherlands. Russian hothouse enterprises also reported that from-for falling of demand they have to destroy millions of roses.
