Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro said he was ready in 2022 to hold a referendum on his resignation if the proponents can gather enough signatures.

his Term expires in 2025. Maduro stressed that the Constitution provides for the possibility of a referendum in the mid term.

“on 10 January 2022, it will be possible to start collecting signatures for a referendum to revoke the mandate of President Maduro. They can go out and collect signatures of citizens,” the President said in a speech that was broadcast to his Twitter (quoted by “RIA Novosti”).

Earlier, U.S. President Donald trump said that he is ready for talks with Maduro, but only to discuss his departure. He said that allows for a meeting with Maduro.

“unlike the radical left, I will always be against socialism and with the people of Venezuela. My administration has always stood on the side of freedom and against the tyrannical regime of Maduro! I would meet with Maduro just to discuss one thing: a peaceful departure from power!” — trump wrote on Twitter.

Nicolas Maduro, then expressed readiness to talk with Donald trump.
