The head of the Federation Council Commission on information policy and interaction with mass media Alexei Pushkov in his Twitter called the reason why the USA left the contract on the elimination of intermediate and shorter-range missiles (INF Treaty).

Earlier, the US special envoy on arms control Marshal Billingsley stated that the United States do not see the option for a moratorium on the deployment in Europe of intermediate-range and shorter-range, which had previously banned the INF Treaty.

According to Pushkov, this result was expected because that is why Washington and withdrew from the Treaty. However, because of this, according to the Senator, European countries risk to be "U.S. hostages".

"This was to be expected: why the United States withdrew from the INF Treaty. The Europeans played along with US and now once again become a risk to their hostages, as during the missile crisis of the 1980s", — said Pushkov.

In the past year, the United States withdrew from the INF Treaty, accusing Russia of violating the Treaty. Moscow denied the accusations and was ready to demonstrate issues caused the rocket to discuss the topic, but Washington did not go forward and withdrew from the agreement unilaterally.

The Russian foreign Ministry said that Moscow is not opposed to connections from other countries to discuss with US questions of strategic stability.
