Rot-Weiss Essen is promoted to the 3rd division. With a 2-0 win against Rot Weiss Ahlen, the traditional club prevailed in a long-distance duel against Preußen Münster. Münster beat 1. FC Köln II 2-1, but ended up with a slightly worse goal difference.

Sensational final in the Regionalliga West on the last matchday. After 14 years, Rot-Weiss Essen is promoted back to the 3rd division. In the end, the traditional club defeated Rot Weiss Ahlen 2:0.

Preußen Münster, who were level on points before the matchday, won 2-1 against 1. FC Köln, but ended up with a goal difference that was three goals worse.

The Essen team, who were last in the third division in the 2007/08 season and played in the Bundesliga for a total of seven years, benefited from the 0-0 draw by Munster in Wiedenbrück last weekend and were able to secure a better starting position as a result.
